Kurufasulye (Erzincanlı Ali Baba)
Now, It is Time for Haricot Bean: Erzincanlı Ali Baba Restaurant
When those who visit the Süleymaniye Mosque, one of the important religious monuments in Istanbul, want to take abreath, they sit in the restaurants around the mosque. One of these restaurants is the right place in Istanbul to eat “Haricot Bean“, which is one of the most favorite dishes in Anatolia. The name of this restaurant which was opened in 1924 in Erzincan and then moved to İstanbul, is Erzincanlı Ali Baba.
Haricot bean is the one the most favorite dishes for whole Anatolian people either poor or reach ones. Although it is very difficult to cook a dish that everyone loves so much, Erzincanlı Ali Baba Restaurant can do it successfully. The first haricot bean that comes to mind when talking thereabout is Ispir bean. But ”Dermason” type of haricot bean is used in Erzincanlı Ali Baba Restaurant. Dermason haricot bean is bigger and softer than the Ispir haricot bean. And the red pepper which is placed in the middle of haricot bean plate is the symbol of Erzincanlı Ali Baba’s haricot bean.
If you like to eat your haricot bean with yogurt, you should absolutely taste the “Manda Yoğurdu (Water Buffalo Yogurt)” of the restaurant. The taste of this yogurt which is served in the clay, is completely different than the taste of yogurts that are sold in the markets. In terms of both its taste and consistency “Water Buffalo Yogurt” would be the right choice.
After eating Erzincanlı Ali Baba Restaurant’s famous haricot bean and “Water Buffalo Yogurt”, you should finish your meal with Anatolian style “Kabak Tatlısı (Pumpkin Dessert)”. The pumpkins are bought from the city of Adapazarı. Those who like pumpkin dessert will certainly like this restaurant’s pumpkin dessert. Even though you do not like pumpkin dessert, I am sure that Erzincanlı Ali Baba Restaurant will completely change your outlook for this dessert.
